Full-sized versatility - 2007 Ford E-150 cargo van/passenger wagon
Since its introduction in the fall of 1960 as a 1961 model, the rear-wheel drive Ford E-150 van has been one of the most versatile vehicles in the automaker's truck lineup. Available in cargo van or passenger wagon body styles, engine choices include two Triton engines: 4.6L and the 5.4L V8s, joined to a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.
Enhancements and upgrades for 2007 include standard electronic throttle control and engine oil cooler for all E-Series models, a larger rear anti-roll bar and driveshaft for E-150 models increasing its GVWR to 8,500 lbs., and available Reverse Sensing System with rear step or contour bumpers.
Simply put, the E-150 is a box on wheels â€"- a plain but very necessary mode of transportation that continues to work when the need exists to haul materials and/or passengers. Cargo van models are available in Commercial or RV-prep trim. Wagon models are offered in XL, XLT and Chateau trim levels.
On the road, the E-150 with the standard 4.6L V8 engine turns in an impressive performance. While the van is engineered for work, it does not punish the driver in acceleration or handling. The E-150 van rides on a full-frame body-on-chassis platform that supports the traditional Ford suspension hardware: independent twin I-beam with coil springs, shock absorbers and stabilizer bar in front; non-independent live axle, leaf springs and shock absorbers in the rear.
Inside, the driver is treated to a vast outward view of the road. Displays and controls are large and easy to read. Analog instrumentation includes speedometer, tachometer, water temperature, volts, oil pressure and fuel. Hand grips in the ‘A’ pillar facilitate entry and exit from the vehicle. A deluxe engine cover console includes dual-bin storage, four industrial-sized cupholders, coin slots, ashtray and a cellular phone holder. Standard front/rear interior lighting and two dashboard mounted powerpoints round out the basics for the full-sized Ford van.
