A popular Vibe - Pontiac wagon streamlines offerings for 2007

Versatile in a hip sort of way, with unique, thoughtful alternatives for transporting one's stuff, reliably strong running gear, honest good looks and a very reasonable price, the Pontiac Vibe hits on all cylinders. For 2007, Pontiac streamlined the Vibe model lineup, with the AWD and GT models being dropped.

A sibling of the current generation Toyota Corolla sedan and Toyota Matrix wagon, the front-drive Vibe is powered by a 1.8L four-cylinder engine w/VVT-i. Torque is transferred to the pavement via one of two gearboxes: five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic.

On the road, the Vibe wagon is responsive and willing. Build quality is impressive out the box and handling is a pleasant surprise. Tried and true suspension hardware is tuned to the max to get the most out of the modern chassis. MacPherson struts are the rule in front with a torsion beam rear suspension setup.

Inside the cabin, Pontiac went to great lengths to develop a "life style" vehicle that actually supports individuals with an active lifestyle. Displays and controls are backlit in red and easy to use. A tall greenhouse provides driver and passengers with seating accommodations that offer an excellent outward view in a airy environment. The rear seat is a 60/40 folding split with a dual storage bin armrest and dual cupholders.

Seating throughout the cabin is versatile, allowing for any number of passenger/cargo configurations. Even the front passenger seat folds flat for added cargo carrying ability. The normal power point in the dashboard was replaced by a regular electrical outlet. That is right, 110 volt electricity is available in the Vibe without the need for an adapter.

The "typical" carpeted cargo area is replaced by an easily cleaned plastic surface that creates a level load floor. Plenty of hooks and tie downs are combined with innovative storage area in the rear to make the most of available space.
